2009 Storytelling Festival Ends
Anderson County Library's Starburst Storytelling Festival ended on Thursday evening. Wright Clarkson from Charlotte was the featured teller the final night. Tim Lowry told stories Monday evening and was the featured artist-in-residence at Anderson University during the festival. He has visited Concord a number of times, as early as 1991, when he was still in college. He was here this past February working with Mrs. Solesbee and the Fifth Grade classes. On Monday, October 19, Concord's fifth grade students heard him perform.

If you missed this year's Festival, make plans to attend next year. It really is an event you shouldn't miss.

Michael Finklea Visits Concord
Kindergartener Creed shares his stories with author Michael Finklea during the autograph session.
International Children's Digital Library
At the South Carolina Association of School Librarians' conference held in Greenville March 11 to 13, I attended a session that introduced me to the International Children's Digital Library.

This is a wonderful resource for all of us. The site has hundreds of picture books on line ready to read. These books are available in many different languages too.

Visit www.icdlbooks.org to see the books and languages available.

September Author Visit
On September 24, 2008, Lester Laminack visited Concord. He has been a teacher and is now a consultant and writer of professional books. He has also authored several books for children.

*illustrated by Chris Soentpiet, who came to Concord a couple of years ago.

Teachers were excited about having him come back in September 2008 and share tips about writing so they can improve writing instruction. First grade teachers recently received copy of Lester's newest book about teaching poetry so he explained how the book was to be used. .
